Unsightly Scars

How to treat them

Do you have a scar that is unsightly or that you are embarrassed about? There are options that can help reduce their appearance. There are many factors that will determine whether a scar will resolve or be permanent. This depends on the depth and the size of the injury, location of the wound, age, skin pigmentation and your genetic predisposition to the formation of scar tissue.

Scars can be Atrophic or Hypertrophic. Atrophic scars look more like a depression where the base of the scar lies below the normal surface level of the skin. Hypertrophic scars generally stay within the boundaries of a wound and are raised above the height level of the normal surrounding skin.
Some of the treatments that can help reduce or resolve a scar are chemical peels, silicon dressings, microdermabrasion, ablative lasers and skin tightening, remodelling and collagen synthesising treatment which are generally done through lasers.
